Hemingway's short stories and 'The moveable Feast', lots of classics that sound boring but are, in fact, awesome, like 'The Forsyte Saga', 'Madame Bovary' or 'Anna Karenina'. Anything modern, but gripping, if not overly cliched or simplistic, is also good, like, for example, 'The Gone Girl'.
