"Free housing? How can you trust people that easily?" my dad asks. My answer, in all seriousness, I could stay in a hotel without any risk but life is better by trying the unordinary. It's a cliche but this is really the best way to meet new people and learn about their food and cultures... I love trying new food by the way :) Somehow I never gain weight, though :)
