I'm an enthusiastic traveler, waiting always for my next destination. I prefer nature instead of the city and hike or bike instead going by car. I did couchsurfing a lot of times going in houses that where friends of my friends, and I did the same in my hometown. I think is the best way because people than couchsurf are very open and kind, and they can introduce you to the local culture.
