Originally I was on Couchsurfing because I was interested in meeting new people from around the world and getting to know an area as a local would. Those are still both valid reasons to be on Couchsurfing, but after being active in this community for awhile, I have come to really value the experience and the unique form of intimacy that Couchsurfing offers. I think it can be so hard these days to really let your guard down and get to know people, but something about immediately building trust by letting a complete stranger stay in your home fosters an environment where it's easier to do so, and the fact that this feeling of intimacy is developed with a stranger rather than through years and years of getting to know someone is a unique and addicting experience. Not to say that all or even most of my experiences have been like that, but I really cherish the ones that have been :)
