I am absolutely not into the as usual boring tourist sightseeing stuff (something like museums, old buildings/churches/temples๐ฅบ)...and I let others waste their (travel) time with drinking coconuts at the beach, while I want to go to the authentic, crazy, adventurous๐ and 'dangerous' places - looking for the next (adrenaline) kick๐ cause I love to stretch my comfort zone. ๐ I prefer local/self-cooked street food instead of fancy restaurants, nice music with new friends๐ in a chilled atmosphere instead of overpriced skybars and a couch with cool people around instead of a big hotel complex that isolates me from everyone! For me culture is about the people - how they are, how they live (their everyday life), to share some stories, experiences and memories with them. Hi, I'm Ahsan Al Hisham โ most people just call me Hisham. I'm from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I travel because I'm curious about people. Places are interesting, but people are what I actually remember. Years later I forget which building I photographed, but I remember the guy who walked me twenty minutes out of his way because my directions were wrong. That's why I want to stay in a local family, than book a hotel. A hotel keeps you outside of a place. A living room puts you inside it. I want to see every country in the world eventually, but I'm not counting or rushing. I'd rather spend a week somewhere small and actually understand it than tick off five cities in five days. I make travel videos on YouTube. A lot of my audience is young people back home who assume travel isn't for them โ wrong passport, wrong currency, too expensive. Most of what I do is proving that's not true. I'm Muslim and I practise, which mainly means I don't drink and I'll disappear for a few minutes to pray. That's the whole extent of it. It's never been a barrier to friendship โ if anything it makes me more interested in what other people believe and why. I've hosted travellers in Dhaka for years, so I know what it takes to open your home to a stranger. I don't take that lightly. If this sounds like your kind of person, say hello.
