MOST OF THE TIME WE ARE NOT IN TIBET.
When we are in Tibet, we DONT live in Lhasa, but in a small village about 2hours by car from Lhasa. We cannot host you...
We keep our CS settings on "Lhasa" because we wish to provide useful information to foreign tourists who are coming to see last pieces of Tibetan culture in the middle of growing chinese dirty city.
(many foreign tourist actually pass our village, if you want to meet, we will be happy to have a tea with you or just spend some time talking and show you around. problem is - there is difficult to have internet in small Tibetan village! )
REMEMBER, if you have some last-minute questions, we probably cannot answer on time! we will try to answer within a WEEK OR TWO!)
Firstly, basic information, Tibet is NOT only TAR (Tibet autonomous region, as China renamed it), TAR is only 1/2 of original Tibet area! Many people are asking about hiking, treking or coming to Tibet independently, if you want to hitch hike and camp and trek in Tibet, TAR is not for you, please read more.
TAR: Foreigners can come to TAR (Lhasa, Kailash, Everest base camp) only with organised tour (group of 1 person and more). Foreigners coming to TAR must buy a tour from travel agency! We highly recommend Tibetan travel agencies! There are many! Please support Tibetan owned and Tibetan run travel agencies. Most of them have websites, it is not necessary to contact agents in China in order to get in Tibet.
TAR: Foreigners are not allowed to stay in other places but government approved hotels for foreigners. (but nobody actually cares)
TAR: foreigners cannot come in March! If you think this time of the year must be good for visit of TAR, you wont get permit anyway. Everything what happened in Tibet in past decades, happened in march, so government wants to avoid foreign witnesses in case something happen again.
TAR: Foreigners can leave the city of Lhasa only by tourist private car with own driver and tourguide, cannot take long distance bus or hitch hike etc. (but nobody actually cares)
TAR: check Tibetan travel agencies online, choose offered interiaries OR ask agency about your own. Book your trip and come :) If you are one person, you can travel alone but the price will be higher. If you are one person (or two/three), you can ask the travel agency to find you another group of foreigners who you would join and decline your costs.
After you come to TAR you still can change your plans (booked and paid trip), but always after you talk with your travel agency.
ALL TIBET AREA: if you travel with an agency, make sure your tour guide is a TIBETAN person. Tibetan people know their culture, history, manners, language,.... non-local tour guides (chinese etc.) arent competent tour guide in Tibet.
There is no facebook, youtube, instagram etc. in PRC, including Tibet, but there are ALWAYS many ways how to get access to these things, we can help you (VPN, free gate, proxy etc).

Do you want to hike, trek, camp, hitch-hike in Tibet?
99% of Chinese province Qinghai, South of Gansu province, West of Sichuan province and North of Yunnan province is TIBET. Here you can find original Tibetan areas called by chinese "Tibetan prefecture" or "Tibetan county". For more information check wikipedia or elswhere online or books.
ORIGINAL TIBETAN AREA HAS 2000KM FROM WEST TO EAST AND 1000KM FROM NORTH TO SOUTH.
North of Tibet (Qinghai, Gansu, part of TAR, Sichuan) is called AMDO.
East of Tibet (Qinghai, Sichuan, Yunnan, part of TAR) is called KHAM.
Central part of TAR is U-TSANG.
In "Outer" Tibet (Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan) foreigners can hitch hike, camp, travel without travel agency and enjoy Tibet and Tibetan culture. In many places, "Tibet" is more "Tibetan" in these parts than in Lhasa.
(Lhasa is already changed by chinese into ugly chinese city, but beautiful grasslands in Kham are still beautiful grasslands :) )
