*** NOT AVAILABLE FOR HOSTING *** CURRENT MISSION To find my place in the big wide world. ABOUT ME I'm an energetic person excited to experience as much as I can from others and the world. I am passionate about wildlife, photography, and of course, traveling! I recently finished my Erasmus Mundus masterโs program and seeking employment. I am not a local in Mechelen/Belgium. PHILOSOPHY Live for the moment in the moment for it may be the one and only chance you will ever get. Choose the life you want to love.
CURRENT MISSION Work hard, settle down, and keep discovering the world ABOUT ME Easygoing, amicable, considerate and sometime humorous โ comments from others. So it won't be wrong ;-) I'm a fan of different cultures, languages, fine arts, cuisines, wines and sports (particularly football, badminton and table tennis). Keen to help others and always happy to make friends around the world. I speak English, Spanish and Chinese (mother tongue), currently learning French, Dutch, Danish, and Italian. I've traveled over 60 countries and the adventure is not yet finished :-) Born in China, I did my Erasmus Mundus Masters in Spain, followed by a PhD in Pharmaceutical Science. Four years in Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and half a year in Angers (France) was just the start, after which I worked and lived in New Zealand for another five years to discover the other end of the world. After another 4 years in Copenhagen and one year in Boston, Now back to Europe again and have a more stabilised life in Antwerp. PHILOSOPHY Since we cannot prolong our life, why donโt we extend its width by traveling and reading?
These last years, I discovered how much happiness travels bring. In 2009-2010, I spent one wonderful year in Canada. I then realized that the world was just a giant playground, and felt fascinated by the freedom we have to travel in it. Since then, I'm quenching this thirst, without worrying too much for my future. I don't really have a plan for my life yet. But I like it that way so far. Just enjoying places I'm in and people I'm with. I'm a simple guy, social, open-minded and happy.
CURRENT MISSION Trying to get used to employee life after 4 years of being a bit everywhere all at once. Stability feels kinda nice! But to balance it out I'm starting to perform stand up comedy in Brussels' caves, so there's that. And still producing my hiking documentary on the side. In 2022 I hiked along the HexaTrek in France. 3034km to get from German border to Basque Country by the mountains. Pictures on my insta if you want to drool on gorgeous mountain ranges @cartapouille Also I'm working on a documentary series of my hike, 7 episodes done, here is the playlist to see me doing absolutely everything outside of hiking in a hiking series (I'm so good at marketing for a niche audience) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qIlOONM8sY&list=PL7OZxbScRlXHlzG9ZYn-lCLK0feh3qjpJ&ab_channel=cartapouille Was recently in Batumi, Georgia, where I was a French and English teacher for months. And then I hked on the Transcaucasian Trail Before that I thru-hike the Via Adriatica in Croatia in 2020 (1100KM across wild mountains, sleeping in my tent in bear-infested woods and mine infested fields). ABOUT ME I'm a French guy from Toulouse, used to work as a journalist in Belgium, now as a communication officer (love those fancy titles for a guy that does tweets). When I don't have enough money or time to travel, I love to help other people to do so. That's why I'm here. I love meeting strangers from all over the world so, even if we don't speak the same language, we will find out how to communicate. PHILOSOPHY Keep tryin'

I'm aware that most of us came to know of Couchsurfing after we googled (or ChatGPTed) 'cheap ways to travel' but don't forget that Couchsurfing is a 'cultural exchange platform', not a platform that gets you 'a free place to sleep'. So please spend some time convincing your host through your request why they should host you. Alright I'm done with my rant, let's talk about me for a bit: I was born and raised in India but I spent a couple of years of my early childhood in Canada. At the age of 18 I moved to Leuven, Belgium where I did my bachelor's and master's in engineering and also got an opportunity to study abroad in Turin, Italy for six months. I started working as a communication systems and security engineer in Brussels after finishing my higher education from KU Leuven in Sept'23. I love meeting new people, understanding their personalities, beliefs, life philosophies, exploring their lifestyle and getting to know them at a personal level. I find people to be very interesting since every person has something to teach and incredible life stories to share. Afterall, we all have some funny stories, unique perspectives and inspiring experiences to share when we overcame great odds against us and still emerged victorious. Welcoming people in my personal place or staying with them while traveling is a great way for me to nurture my interest in people. I host travelers because if I don't have enough time and money to travel the world, I bring the world to me. I couchsurf because travelling a place through a native's perspective is a totally different and unique experience. After visiting almost two dozen countries, I no longer find it very interesting to visit mainstream monuments, historical sites and other tourist attractions. For me travelling has become more about connecting with locals, and trying the local cuisine. I came across CouchSurfing at the age of 16 by watching Tomislav Perko's Ted talk about how he travelled the world with almost no money. My eyes lit up after listening to his tales of adventure and I even went as far as reading both his books about his adventures multiple times. His Ted talk and books inspired me to join CouchSurfing, host people, travel solo and document my own tales of adventure. You can watch his Ted Talk here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7vmHGAshi8 Anyways, that's enough about me. I'll tell you more if we meet in person and if you're eager to get to know me. Since you took the time to visit my profile here's a list of places to visit in Brussels: Monuments: ๐Grand Palace ๐Maison du Roi ๐Hรดtel de Ville (viernes mercados de flores) ๐Galerรญas Saint Humbert ๐Manneken Pis (Rue de lโรtuve) ๐Palacio de Justicia (Barrio de Sablon) ๐Plaza Poelaert ๐Iglesia Notre Dame du Sablon ๐Parque real de Bruselas ๐Catedral de San Miguel y Santa Gรบdula ๐Ruta del cรณmic ๐Barrio Europeo ๐Parque del cincuentenario (arco) ๐Atomium ๐Mini Europe ๐Basรญlica del Sagrado Corazรณn ๐Barrio de Saint Gery ๐Rue des Bouchers Restaurants: ๐ฅจ Cโest bon cโest Belge ๐ฅจ Vitalgaufre (gofre 3โฌ) ๐ฅจ Bia Mara (fish and chips) ๐ฅจ A la Mort Subite (sandwitchโฆ) ๐ฅจ Tonton Garby (bocadillos) ๐ฅจ Noordzee Mer du Nord ๐ฅจ Grimbergen Cafe (fabrica de cerveza + menรบ) ๐ฅจ Fritland (bocadillo tรญpico la mitraillete) Bars: ๐ป Delirium (mitico) ๐ป James Joyce ๐ป Funky Monkey (happy hour 18h) ๐ป Plaza Luxemburgo ๐ป Brasserie Egalitรฉ ๐ป Au Bon Vieux Temps If you're using CS it's very likely that you're travelling on a strict budget so here are some cheap places to eat (no, sadly they don't pay me a commission for this huge promotion): Sindibad: https://maps.app.goo.gl/gnqV98zjkbFoiMSv6 Mr. Falafel: https://maps.app.goo.gl/817GZjKea6U5JiFE6 Pure Veg India: https://maps.app.goo.gl/JXQ577MiJdRBrKZj8 Dar Lwalida: https://maps.app.goo.gl/wqacaXWgzEqmzuyM6 Are you the type who plans your trip trip well in advance? Then these two websites are for you: https://www.visit.brussels/en/like-a-local https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Brussels If you are a chocolate nerd, you will enjoy the (more or less) independent chocolate makers downtown. Otherwise, we go to a supermarket for the bigger pieces, they all sell the usual mainstream (for a Belgian standard, very good unless you are an expert in chocolate) stuff like Cรดte d'Or, Jacques, Callebaut. Good to know: the Neuhaus and Leonidas factories have an outlet in the border of Brussels, with interesting prices.
CURRENT MISSION Mission? Am I on a mission? Nobody told me about it... ABOUT ME I like to travel around the world whenever I can - to discover other cultures, meet with interesting people, take pictures, hiking and taste special food. I learned there are nice people everywhere, just open your eyes and do not have prejudice against people from different backgrounds. PHILOSOPHY Enjoy every day when I wake up! My philosophy regarding travel is very much aligned to the ethos of Burning Man and its 10 principles. I always try to apply these principles in the context of couch surfing: 1. RADICAL INCLUSION: Anyone may be a part of our global community. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community. 2. GIFTING: Our global community is devoted to acts of gift giving. The value of a gift is unconditional. Gifting does not contemplate a return or an exchange for something of equal value. 3. DECOMMODIFICATION: In order to preserve the spirit of gifting, our community seeks to create social environments that are unmediated by financial transactions. We stand ready to protect our culture from such exploitation. We resist the substitution of consumption for participatory experience. 4. RADICAL SELF-RELIANCE: Travel encourages the individual to discover, exercise, and rely on his or her inner resources. 5. RADICAL SELF-EXPRESSION: Amazing experiences arise from the unique gifts of the individual. No one other than the individual or a collaborating group can determine its content. It is offered as a gift to others. In this spirit, the giver should respect the rights and liberties of the recipient. 6. COMMUNAL EFFORT: Our community values creative cooperation and collaboration. We strive to produce, promote and protect social networks, public spaces, works of art, and methods of communication that support such interaction. 7. CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY: Our community values civil society. Community members who organize events should assume responsibility for public welfare and endeavor to communicate civic responsibilities to participants. They must also assume responsibility for conducting events in accordance with local, state, and federal laws. 8. LEAVING NO TRACE: Our community respects the environment. We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavor, whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when we found them. 9. PARTICIPATION: Our community is committed to a radically participatory ethic. We believe that transformative change, whether in the individual or in society, can occur only through the medium of deeply personal participation. We achieve being through doing. Everyone is invited to work. Everyone is invited to play. We make the world real through actions that open the heart. 10. IMMEDIACY: The concept of immediate experience is, in many ways, the most important touchstone of value in our culture. We seek to overcome barriers that stand between us and a recognition of our inner selves, the reality of those around us, participation in society, and contact with a natural world exceeding human powers. No idea can substitute for this experience.
CURRENT MISSION to focus one day ABOUT ME It's not impossible that I fell into coma about five years ago and I'm still waking up. That would explain why I feel like I was 17. I have the strangest dreams all the time... PHILOSOPHY Finding all absurdities around me and all the precious things that we don't usually notice.
I'm a 26 year old teacher from Brussels, Belgium. Love meeting new people and visiting new places.

Belgian, m, NL/FR/ENG, civil engineer, extrovert, open minded, world backpack traveler, curious wanderer, serial chiller. My interests include cycling, chess, art, meditation, nature, melodious techno and ecstatic dance. I value ultimate sarcasm and pointless discussions. Remember that happiness is a way of travel, not a destination. (Roy Goodman)
I studied biology and love nature and wildlife. I'm currently working at the educational services of the natural sciences museum in Brussels (https://www.naturalsciences.be/en). I also work as a volunteer at the Planckendael Zoo of Mechelen and as a climate coach for Goodplanet. I like sports, both watching and doing them. I'm active in a chess club (not really physical sports, but still sports) where I train young children. I also like music, travelling and meeting new cultures. I'm a cultural mix myself as I have a Belgian father and a Chinese-Malaysian mother. I love cooking and eating and love sharing this with guests, but be aware that I'm vegetarian. If you want more information, just ask. You can also visit my facebookprofile: https://www.facebook.com/kevin.dewinter.77 or a vk profile: https://vk.com/id402441220 . I'm less active on couchsurfing than before, but always welcome to contact me in fb or vk
