Why I'm on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING I used to have stats on here about how many times I have hosted and surfed... but lost count. I used to host and surf TONS when I lived in Europe. Since moving to Australia I haven't been as active due to small apartments. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE I used to have stats here but I lost track. See my references for a better idea :)
Music, Movies, and Books
Mostly I just like books. This is really hard to fill out because I am a book-a-holic. The amazon website is like a death trap for me. I love reading all sorts of books; sociology, travel literature, history, classics, etc, etc. If it is in print I will like it. I love books so much, they are the biggest problem with my moving around the world... I like many varieties of music, even the genres that I say I do not like (example: country) I can still find one or two songs that I do. However, I mostly listen to trip hop, acid jazz, and indie stuff. Movies are fun. I particularly like movies that have subtitles.
One Amazing Thing I've Done
I was once stranded outside a train station in Dombovar in Hungary. It was the middle of January, the middle of the night, and I was outside and cold and wrapped in my bright orange sleeping bag. My train was not due for several more hours. A man kept approaching me and trying to talk to me, but he didnt speak a word of english. Eventually he got someone on his mobile that *sort of* spoke english, and this man told me to go with the other man. I considered the good possibility of being sold into the sex trade or merely just murdered, but instead he put me up into the engine room of a very old train, and then drove me half way across hungary to where I needed to catch my flight from. It was the most amazing random act of kindness I have ever experianced, and just goes to show that not all people out there are bad! Dumpster diving in London with my host from London Calling a year previous. The amount of wastefulness that large urban centers is really very appalling, and engaging in dumpster diving was an extremely liberating experience for me. Driving across North America from coast to coast. Well not really driving, since I myself don't have my license. I took the greyhound from New York to Winnipeg, then met up with some CSers who were driving across Canada and drove with them from Winnipeg to Vancouver. After visiting friends out there, I took the greyhound back to Winnipeg again. I guess Ive gone coast to coast 1.5 times now!
