CURRENT MISSION Filmmaking; making a documentary about what meanings the film Thelma & Louise holds for viewers and its place in popular culture. To get a feel for what I am doing, see the trailer on my website: www.catchingsightof.com and like me on www.facebook.com/catchingsightof On my website, in addition to the trailer, you will find short videos, comments about my film, a blog, and related information. ABOUT ME Retired from a variety of professions and occupations, including law practice, right-of-way supervisor, stock option trader, commercial real estate broker, etc., etc. All of that seems very long ago to me - like some other lifetime. I spent several years doing various volunteer activities such as tutoring ESL, working in a hospital and sorting donations at the food bank warehouse.I have a life-long interest in film. ... particularly independent film and documentaries. I have just finished producing a documentary. [See current mission] - I like walking, dancing (many kinds), chanting. Have done a considerable amount of travel (see below). Enjoy meeting new people. Like quiet, one-on-one conversations. PHILOSOPHY I believe that everything we do and say has an impact on others - far beyond what we realize. We are all connected. Our lives cause ripples which interact and intersect with others.I believe, if I want a different kind of world, I must individually set the example for the changes I would like to see. If I want people to be kinder and more tolerant, I must live my life in a way that mirrors such behavior. When we meet someone, even in passing, it is best to remember that we really have no idea what that person is going through. They may be dealing with a loved one who is dying. They may have a debilitating medical condition. Many things, we can't see on the surface, may cause a person to be abrupt, impatient, or angry. Having an open heart can go a long way toward making this a better world.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING Currently I am too busy working on my film to host visitors, but look forward to the time when I can be more active again. I'm happy to answer emails with questions about the city/region. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE I have surfed three times in Washington state, once in Mexico and once in Arkansas. All hosts were kind and generous in letting me share their homes. I feel most fortunate in having experienced the kindness of strangers in this manner.
Music, Movies, and Books
I especially enjoy stories about human relationships - families and friends and also the kindness of strangers and the unexpected.
One Amazing Thing I've Done
Traveling to about 35 countries; dancing and singing atop a Maya temple in Tonina, Chiapas; being given keys to an apartment in Copenhagen by a total stranger; Stopped by a roadblock of people from a Mayan village on a highway when I was trying to get to the airport; Threatened with arrest by officials in Lerici, Italy; Invited to stay overnight with a Muslim family in Hoscova, Bulgaria, and so on.
Teach, Learn, Share
Can teach English as a Second Language; Just for fun, like to teach Sudoku. Learning all the time - how to be a better person - more sensitive, patient, loving etc. ... no end to this one.
What I Can Share With Hosts
I can share stories about travel and about making movies. I can offer suggestions relating to health issues. I can cook.
My Interests
See "personal description" above, as that pretty well covers it. But I should add that I have a special attraction to wild birds. - little birds, big birds, hummingbirds, hawks, you name it.
