We just got back from a long trip through Central America and Mexico. I’m Mariel, a longtime Couchsurfing enthusiast and one of the pioneers of the community. This is my family. For the past 10 years, my husband and I have been traveling the world, and we’ve now visited 60 countries, always looking for real connections, different cultures, nature, and deep conversations. We both work remotely, which allows us to combine work and travel. We prefer taking the local paths rather than following the typical tourist routes. For the past two years, though, we’ve been living a more settled and peaceful life in Merlo, San Luis, surrounded by mountains and streams. We still love traveling and discovering new places, but we’ve also learned to appreciate having a home and a slower pace of life. Since we work online and spend quite a bit of time at home, we especially enjoy hosting travelers who are passing through and genuinely excited to explore Merlo and the surrounding area. We’re happy to share our home and our local knowledge with people who are curious, independent, and eager to get out and experience the place.

My ideal travel itinerary: planned or go-with-the-flow?
Why I'm on Couchsurfing
