ABOUT ME Hello! My name is Nerve and I am an international human rights expert with over ten years of experience in program design, management and evaluation, participatory action research, advocacy and campaign strategy, and community organizing. I have been invited to speak on human rights, indigenous peoples' rights, business and human rights, development, and conflict resolution to nonprofit organizations, universities and private sector. I am also contributing to a book on families of the disappeared, which will be published by Voice of Witness. In San Francisco, I host a weekly radio show, Possible Futures, at KUSF-in-Exile, where I feature thought leaders in the Bay Area through a conversation. As a filmmaker, I have produced documentary videos, which have been screened at the SF Public Library; De Anza College, Cupertino; CAW Local Union Hall, Toronto; Shoreline Community College, WA; Habi Arts, LA; and UP Film Institute. I am a Grand Prize winner for documentary film at the 2009 Cine-Indie Film Festival for the MDGs for the film Gera Woi Gutasan/War and Hunger. I also co-directed and co-produced Gami Dad Lnumfig/We the Oppressed, which was shown to the UN CERD in Geneva, Switzerland. I work part-time at the World Affairs Council of Northern California as an Audio Video Associate. In 2009, I was awarded a Rotary Peace Fellowship, which gave me the opportunity to come to the US. I have a Masters in Asian Studies at UC Berkeley and my research interests include territoriality, indigeneity and militarism. I am currently in a PhD program at UCLA. Music, Movies, and Books
Hanif Kureishi Milan Kundera Joni Mitchell Nina Simone I love films that hit you in the gut like Let's Talk About Kevin, Amores Perros, The Master, Requiem for a Dream, etc But don't get me wrong - I also love romcom!
One Amazing Thing I've Done
As a filmmaker, I've witnessed challenging human conditions. But I've also witnessed how people in the most difficult situation can really win over fear, misery and hardship toward a life of fulfillment. I've lived in an area for several years without money and away from most tech gadgets and where the social relationship is based on trust, not cash.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach how to make a video without much costs, webstream for free, graphic design. I can share processes and dynamics and challenges of being part of a global social movement for change. I want to learn quantitative analysis and statistics. And French and Spanish.
