CURRENT MISSION Find a way to help prepare my community for a life post-peak oil ABOUT ME I'm 24 and I graduated this spring from UF's Environmental Engineering program with a BS. I can't tell you how excited I am to be done. I've wanted to travel for as long as I can remember, spending hours flipping through atlases throughout my childhood.(Think Margaret Dashwood) I have serious perfectionism. I am allergic to cats. I love music and sounds. I want to be a part of Engineers without Borders someday. I want to work with others to create a more sustainable society. PHILOSOPHY I want to be able to exist while causing the least amount of harm/impact possible to others and to our environment. I'm still working on the rest. Every time I think I got it I'm lost again.
Interested in Cats
Interested in Cooking
Fluent in English
Learning French
Why I'm on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE I've crashed at houses in Georgia, Michigan and Florida, on floors, on mattresses on the floor, on couches, in beds, in a tent in the backyard-where ever! I've had friends stay at my place for days and these have always turned out to be some of the best memories I have.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music (lately) - good sing along songs, gogol bordello, DeVotchKa, neutral milk hotel, the mountain goats, the flaming lips, breathe owl breathe, daniel kahn, tom waits, soltero, devendra banhart, ani difranco, black eyes (I could go on and on...) Movies - tideland, volver, eternal sunshine..., pan's labyrinth (el laberinto del fauno), american beauty, amores perros, science of sleep, cidade de deus, annie hall, the big lebowski, frida, amelie, brazil (I could go on and on about these as well. I'm a bit addicted) also: the history of oil, the corporation, the end of suburbia Something about these books always stayed with me- skinny legs and all by tom robbins, dune by frank herbert, the unbearable lightness of being by milan kundera, the giving tree by shel silverstein
One Amazing Thing I've Done
Nature amazes me. People amaze me. I just saw the Flaming Lips for free, from the front row, showered in confetti and smiles. That was pretty amazing. I graduate college againt a fair few odds. I'm seeing Europe.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach beginning Spanish. I can teach you about environmental issues and why the answers we're getting from political leaders are not good enough and possibly very wrong. I'd like to learn more languages. Russian, German, French, Mandarin- that should hold me over for the next 10 years. I'd like to learn how to grow my own food.
My Interests
I am currently very interested in: Sustainable living and intentional communities with a focus on the water and wastewater needs and food supply options of/in such a community. I love learning new skills, like a new instrument, or language, or math equation, or cooking technique. I also love learning about different points of view and cultures.
