CURRENT MISSION Expanding My Horizons One Couch at a Time ... ABOUT ME I'm a bit of a planner, which is why i'm coming to Couchsurfing so late in life. Aside from that, you'll find in me a thoughtful, intelligent, open-minded explorer, always asking why. I have a keen sense of humor, always looking to put a funny twist on events, especially when everyone feels like crying. Usually reserved, I don't often take the lead in conversation, but will definitely contribute to a lively debate. Though I don't seek to be the life of the party, I'm always eager to hang with those who do. Responsible, dutiful, and reliable, I'm seeking to explore the inner rebel inside all of us. At one point in my life I sought to be a professional "house guest" enjoying the special times with friends and family that can only come from those leisurely days when everyone lets their guard down, relaxes, and celebrates the arrival of a special guest. I don't know what happened to that guy, but with any luck you will see him on your couch. I became a professional much too young working in the film and TV business in Los Angeles. I love working with other creative personalities, and if I'm guilty of anything, it's working too hard and not taking the time to enjoy life. I'll confess most of my travel has been work-related and in isolating hotels. I've seen the world through a concierge's eyes, and that needs to change. Why I'm on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING Not sure yet. Most likely I will try it myself with a veteran before I offer to host on my own, or at least meet an otherwise prospective surfer in my home town to learn about their experiences. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE A friend returned from a surf trip and turned me on to the website, highly recommended by her friends, and I was blown away by the simplicity of the idea. Why haven't I heard about this sooner!? Looking forward to my first time ...
Music, Movies, and Books
Currently reading the Steve Jobs Biography. Most recently read Impact by Douglas Preston. Recently saw Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes at the Los Angeles Symphony. Favorite new artist is Tallest Man On Earth. Listening to "Some Nights" by Fun as I type. Would like to see "The Intouchables", just finished a TV marathon of "Breaking Bad" season 1-4.
One Amazing Thing I've Done
My first time skydiving solo. Summiting the Grand Teton, after spending a Summer in Yellowstone, and seeing the view from the top of the world for the first time. Weathering a warm tropical downpour naked one night on an islet in Fiji. Spending time with the bears of Frazer Lake in Kodiak, and having a frightened bear cub run within 5 feet of me, not knowing where its mother was, or if the charging sow 20 feet away would keep coming.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm pretty patient and therefore make a good teacher. Probably better than I am a student. I am a classically trained musician, work in the music business, and have a knowledge of the inner workings of TV and film. In addition, I have some carpentry skills, having renovated and remodeled my own home.
My Interests
I'm an avid outdoors enthusiast. I love getting out for a surf, bike ride, a good hike, camping, snow skiing, water skiing, kayaking, volleyball, swimming, golf, weightlifting, or just reading a good book on the beach. The ocean lures me everyday, taunting me to master it on my surfboard ... I am equally captivated by museums, history, concerts, plays, movies and even a night on the couch with some quality television. I love food, and used to be a good cook, though haven't tried that in a while. But a nice long brunch, or an amazing dinner, with good company is always on my list of must-dos ... or just a simple cup of coffee at a sidewalk cafe.
