One Amazing Thing I've Done
The most amazing thing I ever have done is to visit the arctic village Ny-Ålesund; worlds northenmost community. It's living about 30 people permanently there, and it's visiting by among 200 season workers from 20 countries every year. It's an science city and you need to be a worker/student/scientist to live here. Tourists can only be here for some hours and never for more than a night if you are lucky. I was there for elleven days, having a summer job as a "handyman" - such I'm not a handyman. It's not allowed to live her for more than five years period, and it's not allowed with children between 6 and 18 years cause it's not any schools here and transportation is difficult. In Ny-Ålesund you find a Fire Station, Trash Station (sorts for 28 categories), Power Station, Wellfare Station, Gym, Pub, Museum, Souvenir Shop, Hotel, Post Office, Reseption and in the summer it's living to Police Officers here. You will not find bank, school or a doctor here. In the summer cruise boats arrive every day. Ny-Ålesund is an old mine village and elleven people lost their lives here in 1962 cause of too bad security, and the Norwegian Prime Minister had to go. Ny-Ålesund have 30 people living there pemanently and they are working at Kings Bay AS who is a Company own by the Norwegian goverment and host all the scientist. All over you will se rests from the mine story and it's an amazing nature there. You can read more at www.kingsbay.no and se some pictures at www.roarmoen.no
