I'm Nozomi, friends call me Zomi, Zo, and also Beckie, because my legal American name is Rebecca. But you may call me whatever feels natural. I was born and raised in Seattle, WA, I'm half Japanese, half Caucasian, sometimes called hapa in Hawaii. I always loved coming to the islands because it felt like a place I could just be without people asking about my ethnicity. I moved to Kauai in 2013, had my daughter in 2015, and enjoy raising her here very much. Curious and optimistic are two words that could describe me. I have always been deeply driven to understand various layers of being and how to make life most enjoyable. I enjoy studying all kinds of subjects, as I find them resonant. It's not unlike me to pull a quirky factoid out of what may seem like left field. Kids and animals are such beautiful teachers, so in tune with what is right and working for us in the our world. I LOVE dance-salsa, kizomba, bachata, Polynesian, if you can teach it to me, and I can feel it in the music, I'll probably love it. I enjoy music of many genres, and really most forms of expressive art. Another thing I LOVE, is travel! I know myself to be highly sensitive, and there is no better way to learn, than to let myself envibe the qualities of another culture or environment. Wellness of mind/body-spirit sit at the core of what I find, creates a joyous life experience. I practice working with energy individually, as well as with friends and in community, to maintain my state of being. I enjoy finding meditation in many different forms, sitting practice, as well as mixed forms of body awareness practices. I feel the human experience is a journey taken for many different reasons. Each of us here to fill a unique purpose, carrying a perspective which reflects and serves us on that path.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
In this increasingly globalizing world I see much value in all of us expanding our understandings of the various people, and cultures that make up our environment. I feel travel and exchange, is one of the richest way to build learning and growth.
One Amazing Thing I've Done
Life get's more amazing all the time <3 I am going to reserve this space for something in the future.
Teach, Learn, Share
One of the best lessons I think I've committed to, for a more enjoyable human experience, was a renewed relationship with food. As a young female in the United States, body image in the media can wreak havoc on ones self image and consequently, relationship to food. I've personally found this particularly disruptive and struggled with disordered eating and exercise obsession for many years, until a wonderful nutritionist who taught me that listening to my body was the healthiest diet for me. She suggested me a wonderful book that taught me to slow down, and trust my body, helping me set a foundation of mind/body communication, which has opened new capacities for healing on many different levels. I'd love it if others could find benefits in this sort of mental re framing around nourishment.
