At 43, I decided to pack up my apartment in Sydney and become a digital nomad. I am a founder of a recruitment business that started in Australia and now works in the UK too - I can do it from anywhere. We are doing some cool things to eliminate bias from the recruitment process and disrupt the industry one role at a time. It's fun, and we are trying to be a good company as a member of 1% for the Planet. For kicks, I sell organic wine for a friend's winery based in Orange, NSW, Australia. I have a wine export licence, so I can sell anywhere. I previously owned a restaurant in a vineyard in Australia. So if I stay, you can expect me to offer to cook, and I'm pretty good! I am gay, not the rainbow flag-flying kind, but very open about who I am and comfortable in my own skin. I am mostly a nudist at home and anywhere else in allowed but it's not essential when looking for a surfing host. In late 2021 I rediscovered the joy of cycling and am travelling to most places in the world with my bicycle - getting in up to 100 miles a day if I have refrained from a glass of wine the evening before. I'm a social sort but love some quiet time to recharge. I’m the past I have had dogs and cats and I love animals - happy to take your dog for a walk or give your pets a cuddle.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
Meeting new people and getting to know a place and its culture. I am not one for organised tour groups or typical sightseeing; experiencing a place through people is much more exciting. I thought I was too old for this type of thing, but I stayed with a veteran couch-surfer through another platform in Rome in early 2023 who showed me the site and said, "No way - you are not too old couch surfing", so here I am.
Music, Movies, and Books
Everything from Mozart to Madonna; I grew up on Billy Joel thanks to my Dad! Troye Sivan is my current on-loop artist. I'm not too fond of horror movies unless they are real-life possible, so something like SAW or Hostel. My favourite movies are Breakfast at Tiffany's and Baz Luhrmann's Romeo & Juliet, so I must admit to being a hopeless romantic. I love a good self-help, spiritual development read, some chick-lit or existential novel. I also read a lot of cook books and Chef's stories.
One Amazing Thing I've Done
One - just one. That's impossible to choose as I like to think I've done some pretty awesome things. In 2022 I did the 545-mile bike ride across California from San Francisco to Los Angeles and rode down Sunset Boulevard to the LA Pride crowd cheering me on - with 2500 other riders, which was a tremendous buzz. We also raised $19m for AIDS charities. I am doing the ride again in 2023. There's some other cool stuff, like that time I spent on a private super yacht with.....
Teach, Learn, Share
If you are looking for a new job or want career advice, I am pretty good with rewriting resumes, interview coaching and all that career management stuff and happy to do some work with you while I stay. I cannot sing or play an instrument, but I love improv and dream of being a stand-up comedian. Let's go for a bike ride or hike together.
What I Can Share With Hosts
Always happy to share cooking duties, or if you aren't a great cook, I teach cooking classes in Australia and would love to share some simple but outstanding recipes with you that will stick for life. I don't have a home at the moment to share - but when I settle again or am renting a place in Balie from August 2023 I'll be happy to host fellow travellers.
