I prefer to travel at ground level - I'd much rather meet locals than stay at hotels with other tourists :)

Music: A jillion bands including Isis, Opeth, Tool, Nas, The Decemberists, The Mars Volta, Kendrick, Sufjan, Porcupine Tree, Circa Survive, Kanye, Ween, RX Bandits, Deftones, and on, and on... Movies: Donnie Darko, Mulholland Drive, Super Troopers - lots more, but that's a representative sample. Books: Siddhartha, 1984, Snow Crash, short stories.
