Our farm is located in Tierra Amarilla, NM; a rural town rich with history and culture. We are off the grid: solar and wind electric systems, solar hot water, bio gas (from manure), masonry wood stoves, and greenhouses. We grow: lettuce greens, cooking greens, beets, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and pretty much anything that will grow in this dry mountain desert climate: outdoor gardens in summer, greenhouses in winter. We ferment kim chi, yogurt, cheese, tempeh, etc. and bake bread. We keep: goats, rabbits, chickens, geese, dogs, cats. We build with natural materials: pumice, wood, mud, and straw. Green energy and alternative construction are part of daily activities. We accept volunteers year-round, practical experience preferred but not required. Minimum stay: one month, longer works better. Multiple apartments available, children and pets ok. Meals provided, all diets accommodated. Hours expected to be worked per day: 4. Public transportation available from Santa Fe and Albuquerque to Tierra Amarilla where we pick you up. Projects and Goals: wood fired oven to be constructed in baking and brewing center, water tank repair, vehicle reconstruction, outside building put together with pumice and mud bricks, goat shed, the list goes on. Tierra Amarilla is surrounded by beautiful wilderness: rivers, lakes, hot springs, 11,000 ft. mountains, and various campgrounds.
