Hi! I’m Matteo, originally from Lecce, in sunny southern Italy. I moved to Milan in 2012, and since then I’ve also had the chance to call Lisbon and Amsterdam home for a while. My background is in biomedical engineering, which I studied at Politecnico di Milano. I spent my Erasmus in Lisbon and later worked in a neuroscience lab in Amsterdam. After a few years in healthcare, I decided to change direction in 2022 and follow my passion for sport. Since then, I’ve completed a Master’s in Sport Design and Management and worked in sports projects and major events, including Milano Cortina 2026 and, most recently, the Mediterranean Games in Taranto. That last experience brought me back to my home region, Puglia! What I love most about sport is its ability to bring people together. I help run OffSisters, a women’s football project in Milan where people from different countries and backgrounds come together to play, build friendships and support each other. I’ve also volunteered with Real Eyes Sport, supporting sports activities for blind and visually impaired people. Volunteering has been an important part of my life: I spent two years with the Erasmus Student Network and co-founded a student association during university. Looking back, connecting people seems to be a thread running through most of what I do. I enjoy travelling, hiking and discovering places on foot, whether that means exploring a city or walking a Camino route. I like having time to get to know a place and the people who live there, beyond the usual sightseeing spots. For me, Couchsurfing is about sharing a little of our everyday lives: a meal, a walk, a conversation or a favourite local spot. I’m always happy to exchange travel stories, talk about sport and life, and learn something from the people I meet. Looking forward to meeting you!
