I am a Candian with a passion for science and exploring the world. I love discovering new music, especially live, trying new foods, and learning about people's cultures and interests. I'm a bonafide extrovert that simply enjoys the presence of others and the process of meeting new people. I have couchsurfed many times in several countries (NZ, France, USA) but it never seems to end up happening on the app so I'm also looking to develop my profile with references. I work in data and project management in airborne geophysical surveying. Basically, I get sent around the world for several months at a time to study what's in the ground. Outside of that working time, I'm usually exploring the wonderful and unexpected areas I find myself in. Generally, I'm travelling 8+ months out of the year, 5-6 of those with work. My home for the past 13 years has been Ottawa, On, Canada. I would absolutely love to host... but I have roommates, and I'm never there, so it would only be for people I could meet beforehand, out of respect for them.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
To meet new people while exploring new places and share as much of the experience as possible! New people and experiences are my main motivators for travel, and Couchsurfing is a streamlined method of finding and deepening these experiences.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Grunge (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden) Indie (Dr. Dog, Mt.Joy, Shakey Graves) Rock (Foo Foghters, Revivalists) And whatever else feels good (Sam Fender, Broken Bells, Norah Jones, David Bowie..........) Books: Sorcerer of Pyongyang - Marcel Theroux Reincarnation Blues - Michael Poore Lord Of the Rings - J.R.R.Tolkien Movies: Marvel Action, especially spy movies Comedy Drama
One Amazing Thing I've Done
Hitchhiked across both main islands in New Zealand solo Got abducted in a floating market by a friendly merchant Got lost in China during an extended layover
Teach, Learn, Share
I love cooking and am super ready to learn and teach, hopefully back and forth. I also love the outdoors and learning more about the natural world. I'm a scientist at heart, so all the technical and philosophical questions that come along with that are a staple conversation topic over drinks, but drinks are not mandatory.
What I Can Share With Hosts
I am happy to help with cooking, cleaning, and any home projects you might have on the go. If you want to show me your favorite place in town, I don't mind covering your meal or entry fee - I'm more on couchsurfing to have a fuller shared experience than to save money, after all.
My Interests
I have a Masters degree in physics, which I got after 5 years of working in a high pressure lab, where we created new phases of material with high pressures (think graphite to diamond type of transitions). I am still quite passionate about that work, and will talk at great lengths about it if enticed. During that time, I got really into volunteering with science outreach and teaching schools and communities about science with fun demonstrations (living out the Bill Nye dream, essentially). I love music, and travel everywhere with a guitar, though I mostly keep playing a private endeavor. I am also very passionate about food, to the extent that, while travelling, I send a list of friends little write-ups on my gastronomic experiences.
