Why I'm on Couchsurfing
As a SURFER: I need to understand how truly special the cultures and the people of the places I am visiting; I have increased appreciation and discernment when connecting with locals. It takes open minds and open hearts to welcome anyone new. I can stay at hostels/hotels/airbnbs but the experience does not feel equally fulfilling. (Airbnbs are terrible for locals' rent/home value!!) As a HOST: I had an uncomfortable experience years ago (being young, female, and naive, early couchsurfing) so I want to provide a SAFE space for CULTURAL EXCHANGE, giving priority to solo female travellers. As of late, we are receiving plenty messages that feel so off, so I need to communicate: We are not a free hotel. :) I think it would be wise to review the goal of this platform.
