Hi, I'll be coming in November for a conference. It will be my first time in the US. I heard about crime there, how bad?

Hi! I've lived and visited several places in the US and in most of them is all about avoiding the known "less than safe" areas for each city. I don't go to Anaheim often enough to tell you which are those areas but the hotel or Airbnb you're staying at should be able to provide you with that information. Just avoid walking alone at night if you're not sure about a specific area. Uber works well around here and if you're staying close to where the conference is then it should not be expensive to take an Uber.
Let me know if you need any specific information and I'll do my best to answer!
I live in Orange. Crime won't be an issue if you visit here. Have a great time ! PS. After reading some of the comments, I can tell you I have lived in California for over 40 years. Crime should be the LAST thing on your list of worries here. First on the list of irritations might be traffic. (use Sigalert.com) Second would be Disneyland---ugh. Avoid the place. Crowds. Tourists. Boredom. Get to the mountains or the beach. The Getty museum. There is lots to do in LA. It's a big place, so allow time to get between places.
Hi Vicentiu,
Yes LA has crime but no it's not like the movies. Like anywhere else, lower income neighborhoods suffer from more crime than others. If you will be visiting in Anaheim that area will not be a problem at all. Don't leave anything valuable in your car that can be seen and you should be fine. Send me a msg if you would like more information. - Cheers!
Los Angeles became infamous in the 80’s due to gang violence over drug turf. Yes there is crime beyond that, but as long as you use your common sense, and basic street smarts, you are most likely to have zero issues. Even if you wandered alone at night in a “bad” area, it’s would be clear that you are a civilian, not a gang banger. So the only crime you may at risk for would be similar to Europe, mostly theft. Add to that that you’ll be staying in the OC, the only crime you are likely to encounter is bad spray tans, and face lifts. Have fun, relax, and of course as always— be safe!
Vince do you know Florin?!
Most likely you will drive past any high crime area on a highway. Los Angeles and Anaheim are very spread out. So you can go a long way before bumping into a high crime area. If you should get lost and go off the highway into south central for example (which is portrayed in the movies), there is still a very low likelihood that anything will happen to you.
Hello Vincentiu,
Welcome to California. Anaheim is filled with tourists near the Disneyland Resort. It is heavily patrolled, but I would imagine most crime near the resort would be related to car break-ins and theft. I feel a little on guard there. I never felt unsafe at Angel Stadium in Anaheim or the nearby restaurants, during the day, but I have been told that both of these areas change for the worse at night.
The parts of Anaheim away from the tourist centers have a bad reputation, but there wouldn’t be any reason for you to travel into those neighborhoods. There isn’t anything to do there. I would avoid socializing in Anaheim, LaPalma, Buena Park, Stanton, Westminster, Garden Grove, and Santa Ana. Although you have a lot of blue collar, working commuters in those neighborhoods, there is also some gang activity.
If you want to go to bars or restaurants, I would advise Seal Beach, Newport Beach, or the Belmont Shores area of Long Beach along 2nd Street.
You will be fine, just don’t go to seedy areas. They will be obvious.
What a stupid question
yeah lol besides if is your time there is not safe place

Joel, wtf. Why was that necessary. That's a rude, useless, comment. Miguel, what?
Crime won't be a problem but rude and unhelpful people might be. However, they are easily ignored and/or mocked.
He's just trolling. Notice he hasn't responded to anyone.
...says the troll.
You got me there. 10 of us responded to his provocative, non-specific-trolling question. 9 fools and 1 troller
Just curious, Ms Vafaie. What about this so-called gentleman and his question made you think that his question was genuine? There were 2 big clues that he was trolling and no indication that he was legitimate.
You will be fine in the Anaheim area (and most other areas). Like in any big cities, it's best to always be mindful of your surroundings, trust your instincts and not leave your belongings unattended. Car break ins do happen sometimes.. don't leave your valuables in your car. Or if you must, put them in the trunk out of sight. In general, crime should not be a worry. I'd say you should be more worried about getting a sunburn :) or getting stuck in traffic. You will notice when Californians speak about traffic they use time rather than miles/kilometers. The map might say 15 kilometers but depending what route that is and at what time of day, it might take you 20 minutes ... or 45 minutes. Always allow more time than you think you will need. Traffic Apps like Waze can help. Be sure to visit the coast .. Laguna Beach (artsy), Seal Beach (quaint) and Huntington Beach (so Californian) are all pretty close.
If you have any other questions, I'm happy to help. Message me directly. And enjoy your time here!
