Hey there! I going to travel for a week in the Tatras mountains region in September. I'll be really happy to hear some local advice about amazing places to visit and see. The places shouldn't be very hard to reach and preferably can reach by car because my parents aren't built for long walks :) Thank you very much!

Hi Nadav, As a first step, please check out the following web sites: http://www.slovakia.com/national-parks/low-tatras/ and http://www.slovakia.com/national-parks/high-tatras/ From your query, it is obvious that you do not know that there are two regions called Tatra. (Low and High). Worth visiting both. If you tell me where you started the journey, then together we will propose the optimal route. I live in Banska Bystrica and regular visits to the mountain. To be honest I'm more visits Low Tatras but every year in September with his wife go on hikes in the High Tatras. In autumn there is usually lovely with stable weather. Looking forward to hearing from you soon Milan
Hi Nadav,
I would definitely recommend visiting Strbske Pleso - accessible by car, the parking fees are somewhat expensive though - you can also go there by bus or train. There you can take a walk around the lake, go to Solisko (ski slope) by cable car or take a walk to to Popradske pleso (approx. 50 minutes from Strbske pleso). I would also recommend Stary Smokovec and cable car to Hrebienok; if you are lucky enough you can reserve the cable car from Tatranska Lomnica to the top of the Lomnicky peak (the second highest mtn in High Tatras) and enjoy the view. You can also visit the Liptov region (because of the beautiful nature); just driving around there is the enjoyment itself.
It also depends on the type of your preferred holiday, for shopping and cafés the nearest destination is Poprad. There are also many cultural sites not that far from Tatras. Feel free to send me a message if you have questions :)
I'd definitely recommend visiting at least one cave, for example Belianska Cave. http://www.slovakia.com/caves/belianska-cave/ . It is a great place and I have very fom childhood memories connected with this place. Also, check out Hrebienok - you can get there by car easily, it's not far from Poprad and you can visit waterfall called Vodopád skok. Very picturesque place. :)
I'd also recommend visiting Pieniny, you can raft the Dunajec river on an old school raft with a guide. It's no more than hour from Poprad and it has great nature - it's another national park, just like High Tatras.
Thanks Eva, Milan and Ivana! Me too I go to this place in september (8-17) and you helped me to mark places on my map ! :)
Thanks also for all the information, I'm just preparing my next trip to Slovakia on Easter holiday. It's very useful! :)
