Hi Couchsurf Community,

Inca and I will be in Flagstaff from 24-27th June. No car. What MUST we do? If I were on my own, I would trek into the Grand Canyon, however, Inca is only 3.5 years old :) Would love local knowledge, tips or adventure buddies! Open to sharing the cost of hiring a car or petrol and exploring together.

The Grand Canyon is about 1 1/2 hours away by car. If you can, it’s worth the visit!

In flagstaff there are lots of fun places to eat and get coffee. Wandering around downtown is free and fun! The Place has great breakfast!

I agree with them ^ Grand Canyon, for sure. Do the trail of time on the south rim! It is a mile and some walk around the rim with beautiful views and rocks brought up from each layer of rock in the canyon. They also have pennies each step you take to resemble I think it is 100,000 years of time that it took to make the Grand Canyon. I also suggest just hanging out around the city of Flagstaff, downtown is perfect for lunch, drinks, and walking around. If you have rented a car, then consider going to Sedona through HWY 89, I consider that drive to be one of the most beautiful in the USA and you can stop along the way and swim in the creek that runs through!

Lowell Observatory, Macy's Coffee (there is laundry next door), Aquaplex for the little one (great play area), & Buffalo Park are nice places in town, but, as previously stated, everything is a bit spread out. The bus is cheap & would work for around town.

The two big places to visit near Flag are The Grand Canyon & Sedona. There is also Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon, & The Petrified Forest to name a few. You could rent a car, it would make things much simpler. If you wanted to sleep in the car, there is free dispersed camping all around Northern Arizona. Check out -- www.freecampsites.net

If you would prefer to go car less, there are probably shuttles to both Sedona & The Canyon

If you go to the canyon super early, you can just drive in and not pay the park fee! Great for those on a budget. However, the yearly parks pass is 80ish dollars & gets you into many parks. Plus, you can gift the pass when leaving the United States!
