I'm contemplating on getting a JR pass, is there a ticket office in Fukuoka that sells JR pass?

JR Passes are sold only outside Japan, but there are local versions that cost a bit more and are usually area specific. Like JR kyushu pass or Nishitetsu bus only pass,
Thanks for the feedback Luis and Sam!
Actually, I've been to their website and read they're going to have a trial run for selling JR passes inside Japan for tourists starting this year. They have a list of stations offering the JR pass but I just couldn't figure out if any of those are in Fukuoka. Would you know if any of these stations are in Fukuoka? Sapporo, Sendai, Niigata, Tokyo, Shinjuku, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, Takamatsu, Hakata, New-Chitose Airport, Narita Airport Terminal 1, Narita Airport Terminal 2-3, Haneda Airport International Terminal, and Kansai Airport (http://www.japanrailpass.net/file/trial_basis_en.pdf).
Hey Ric, Hakata is the main station here in Fukuoka, looks like you might be in luck! Thanks for the news too, I didn't know that.
Thanks for confirming Cameron. Now I don't have to worry about having to get it before my flight. Thanks again!
No worries, I can only confirm the station though ^^; This is the first I've heard about being able to buy the pass while you're here, but it looks fine on the website hey. I might not be in town for cherry blossom time, but if you're here late March/early April, check out the Ohori-koen/Maizaru Park/Castle grounds area in the evening. Bring drinks and dress warm ;) Best of luck, enjoy Japan!
I will only be in Japan from March 15-21, 2017 - so I'm not sure if I'll make it to the Cherry Blossom season, but Fukuoka Castle is definitely on my itinerary. I guessing the weather is still quite cold during that time?
Yeah you're just a bit early for the cherry blossoms I'm afraid, but you might just be lucky if things warm up.
It's usually somewhere around 15 degrees during the day which isn't too bad, it's just that the temperature can drop to below 10 degrees pretty quickly when the sun goes down.
Rug up and check out a yatai in Tenjin one evening!
If you eat meat and you're after some interesting food, there's an offal restaurant in Hakata Station where you can buy a small plate of ovaries, some fried arseholes on a stick, etc. It's a few hundred yen per serve.
There's an "Australian" cafe in Imaizumi called "Manly" that serves kangaroo carpaccio, deep-fried crocodile, and ostrich, among other things. It's about 1000yen per plate, one plate is not quite a meal.
Then there's sushi, ramen (Fukuoka's 'tonkotsu ramen' is a treat), and other Japanese food everywhere ^_^
I might be able to join you (and anyone else reading this) for a meal one night if you like! My schedule for that week isn't confirmed though, can't say for sure yet.
Wow, really appreciate the tips Cameron! Those are some really interesting things to try. Yeah, I'd appreciate if someone can show me around, even for just a short time. I don't really have any plans at this point, all I know is I'm going to Japan, maybe do some sight seeing but definitely try out authentic Japanese cuisine! I plan on staying in Fukuoka for 2 nights, I'm arriving in the afternoon of March 15th and leave in the morning of the 17th - not set in stone though - so if you (or anyone reading this) are available on the nights of the 15th or the 16th, then I would appreciate it if you could join me in discovering Fukuoka. :-)
As Cameron said, anyone is welcome to join if you're free
