Moved to Huntsville
Hi !
I just moved to Huntsville from Phoenix, Arizona. I would like to explore Huntsville since its all totally new to me! Please do let me know if there's anything interesting happening in town this weekend or the next. Also, a few things to do around here that a 20 something person would enjoy !

Hi Megha Kaiwar, Welcome to Sweet Home Alabama!
I suggest you check out meetup.com There are several social groups in the area which offer a wide variety of leisure activities. It's a great way to meet people, make new friends and explore all that North Alabama has to offer. I am the organizer of a couple, one is called Discover Huntsville, we have a monthly meet & greet for dinner/drinks every 2nd Thursday of the month, as well as random other events throughout the month. Including at Lowe Mill, we get together there for the free Friday concerts. Many members are new town, you will be warmly welcomed.
Hi Roshanda !
Thank you so much for your reply ! I checked out the websites you suggested and did find interesting things to do :) I would love to hang with you and your friends. I just sent you my number. Do let me know when and where and I'll be there!! :)
Hi Julilg, I did join that group on Meetup! I hope to meet you sometime during one of the events. Thank you so much for the warm welcome :)
I look forward to meeting you!
Are you into hiking/nature walks, Megha? This is a great place for that, though it's a bit hot at the moment! I made this list recently for another CSer.
Very local, short hikes:
Green Mountain Nature Trail is a short easy loop around a very pretty lake, with a covered bridge.
Rainbow Mountain in Madison has really cool boulders, and is an easy loop.
Monte Sano State Park has a variety of nice loops.
Wheeler Refuge has very short walks (during migration season, you can see thousands of cranes, herons, etc. Also some pretty boardwalks in the swamp.)
Hays Nature Reserve is an easy loop, but really pretty.
A bit farther afield, but all very worthwhile:
Guntersville State Park - a beautiful lake, with eagles' nests!
Buck's Pocket has a spectacular overlook.
Sipsey Wilderness has amazing waterfalls and the "Big Tree" (biggest yellow poplar in Alabama - in one of my pics, I'm hugging it). Challenging, but my favorite place!
Mount Cheaha - the highest mountain in Alabama (not saying much, lol).
Little River Canyon and DeSoto Falls - great waterfalls!
Grundy State Forest in TN. Challenging, but my 2nd favorite hike.
Another site that might be helpful: http://ourvalleyevents.com/ :)
Oops, great places that I forgot:
The Walls of Jericho - Alabama's "Grand Canyon" - really pretty, but there's a strenuous hike out!
And Blevin's Gap - a beautiful Land Trust hike here in Huntsville, great for birdwatching.
There are some photos of a bunch of these places on my profile... I'd love to hike with people - send me a message if you're interested. :)
I'd also recommend the Botanical Gardens!
Tonii come lately. Lol. I'm just coming back myself. In Madison. Let's connect.
