How close to downtown are you looking for? Do you have a price range? And how long do you need to rent? I may be able to help!
My friend uses Craigslist and looks for condo/apartments that need roomies. You can also find semi-cheap places to live on your own, but most would probably want a year commitment. There are multiple roads that make it easy to get into downtown Indy, so unless you want to be able to walk everywhere, you could drive ~5-10 minutes easily and stay a little further out from downtown. Areas to look into: Near East (Woodruff, Windsor, Holy Cross), Near North, Fountain Square, Fletcher Place, Broad Ripple (10ish mins), Irvington (10ish minutes), and others.
