I recommend you to stay in central of Jakarta specifically in Sabang Street, Agus Salim Street, KH Wahid Hasyim Street. Many affordable Hotel, Hostel or guest house are available and most importantly this area is matched with what you need like street food, restaurant and bar/cafe/club around central of Jakarta.

i suggest you to stay in central jakarta. for nightlife usually in south jakarta ( not really sure where, usually scattered around ). for night local food, you could try pecenongan area. and near Kota Tua, there are kind of street food along the road.

I recommend Kemang area (nightlife/food), Cikini (nightlife/food), Sabang st (food) and Kebayoran (nightlife/food).

Nightlife and food? I suggest Kemang area, South Jakarta. Plenty of pubs, clubs, restaurants, local food, and also other foreign residents (expats, tourists, etc). I'm familiar because I live in this area.

Better in Menteng (central Jakarta) or Kuningan Jakarta (South Jakarta, near menteng). Best food, best nightlife and cheaper, and when you want to go home in to the airport directly, just use the "JR Connection" Bus from Lottemart Avenue Kuningan from 5am till 8pm there,only 50k - 30k IDR costs.
