Hi Harrison, it is a bit tricky to rent a motobike. I just saw your post so it maybe late for the message, but I write just in case. The first time I rented one they charged me something like 5000bth just for a small scratch... After that I only rented from one place in srithanu called Ando. The guy has good history of been honest, but he would hold your passaport as he also wants to have some way to know you will come back with his bike. He will just charge you a realistic price if you damage the bike. Sometimes locals rent their bikes for the time they are not in the island. This option is more likely to not hold your passport. I rent mine sometimes. Hope it helps !

It's apparently illegal for them to hold your passport and you need to have it with you to check into hotels and stuff. Offer them a deposit and a photocopy of your passport. Any trouble call the tourist police.
