I'm an American citizen, not of Cuban ancestry, and I'm wondering HOW to get to Cuba in terms of visa
Hi, typical question -- I'm America, how do I really get to Cuba these days? I've heard of the people-to-people visas, but don't get straight answers on line. Looking for the straight answers here! And oh, what about CS in Cuba? Can you say your'e "staying with a friend" at the airport? Or is that too shady? Put down a hotel and just go to your host's house?

Havana is crawling with Americans these days. If you are going on a direct flight to cuba, you fill in a form saying you are in one of the 12 or so categories, you will find one to fit into. Cuban tourist cards are sold by the airlines, prices differ according to the agency you buy the ticket through. Its normal price is 20 dollars but I have seen 50-100 dolars charged for it. Going to Cuba is fairly straightforward these days. Couchsurfing is technically possible but it is not strictly legal. They may not ask you where you are staying nor do you have to put it down on your tourist card.You can mention a medium hotel . Even for seasoned travellers, Cuba is a totally different experience and somewhat surrealistic . It is the modern moveable feast

Don't say you're staying at anybody's house. Just put any hotel's name and you'll be fine!
The visa... you can buy it at so many different places, I'm pretty sure you can buy it at any airport that has flights to Cuba and it's about 20 USD. Just in case, call or email them first to make sure they're gonna have it. ;)
Oh, amd if you're thinking about coming here soon, keep in mind that it's been extremely hot and humid!!! Although sometimes you get some rain late in the afternoon or at night. But yeah, way too hot!! So lots of sunscreen, fresh clothes and an umbrella (not just for the rain, but the sun, too!!)!!

I don't see how this answer is helpful for a person who wants to know about visa. I do not recommend prebooked tours such as the one mentioned, even after you have managed to get into cuba with a proper visa. as I mentioned earlier nowadays it is just like going to another country except answering that you fit into one of the 12 categories

Lol, what a joke Malena, a Cuban commenting on American restrictions as if Cuba is not the most regulated country in the world, or at least one of the most regulated.
All things considered, from my experience. Go to Cuba via a 3rd country...Mexico, Guatemala or even one in S. America. Get the tourist card ahead of time. It was cheaper for my wife and I to get it at an embassy, just 15 USD. I asked them to stamp that instead of the passport and used a Guatemala card to spend and pay for things.
