Housing in Leiden - Couches won't do for one year
Hi,
I recently moved from Berlin to Leiden to study in a Master's program. I knew it would be difficult to find a place to stay, but I didn't imagine it to be impossible. I have been looking for three weeks now and I am in Leiden for over one week (hotels, because I don't want to block entire rooms with my luggage while couchsurfing) and have been on every single website advertising rooms and apartments, even on the Dutch ones (I understand a bit Dutch because I speak German), but even though I've viewed some rooms I wasn't successful yet.
Maybe I am a bit picky, but I don't need much to feel comfortable: likable and not too many flat mates, a quiet room with daylight, not too expensive (reasonable expensive is okay) and not too far away from university.
I have spoken to a myriad people since I arrived and it seems to be jinxed, noone can help and all the vacant rooms are floating away like driftwood in a storm.
Is there anyone on couchsurfing.com familiar with Leiden who has got one more piece of advice for me?
Ingeborg
