Thanks a lot for recommend books
I always try to find a travel book related to the country in which I am traveling. Simon Winchester is brilliant at this. Years ago, I did a study tour on the Yantze/Chiang Jang River and the impacts of the Three Gorges Dam, and read his The River at the Center of the World: A Journey Up the Yangtze, and Back in Chinese Time. He did an amazing job of capturing historic events in the cities we traveled to including Wuhan, Nanjing, Shanghai. His wikipedia page lists his books. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Winchester.
I also vividely recall reading Irving Stone's biographical novel on the life of Michaelangelo - "The Agony and the Ecstacy" - while traveling through Florence and other cities that were important in his time. Seeing "de Medici" everywhere took on new meaning when reading about that family's power and role in Michaelangelo's life.
If you're traveling in Ireland, perhaps some James Joyce? Portrait of the Artist As A Young Man?
