Hi all,
2 people traveling: Landing: 5th April 17:45 Departing: 13th April 2025
We have been to England before. I am Greek Cypriot so I can drive on the left (actually I can drive on both sides).
We want to spend a couple of days in London, explore the lake district and a night in Brighton and a night in Dover.
She wants to go to some place remote where she can unplug her phone and feel unreachable, that kind of thing.
Do you suggest we use public transport or car rental?
Kindly awaiting for your suggestions.

It really depends where you are going, and how much you can plan ahead.
For trips to the major cities, particularly London, it's probably better to use public transport between and within them. Inter-city coaches are cheap when booked well in advance and trains are cheapER and usually quicker than road transport.
In smaller towns and rural areas, or for more flexibility to travel without planning ahead, a hired car (which can be very cheap at the airport - just beware the "insurance excess") can be the better option.
If you want to see the UK in all its variety then possibly a combination of public transport at car rental works best. It really depends on what you want to do.

We finally decided as follows. 5th and 6th sleep near Heathrow, 7th morning take car rental to Cotswolds, return car 12th at Heathrow, 13th London and fly out in the evening.
Any suggestion about 5 night 6 day itineraries at Cotswolds, feel free to share.
The car rental is too expensive with the additional insurance. The basic insurance is covered. Do you suggest I take the additional one?
Car rental firms' optional insurance is usually a rip off. You can take out a separate policy with someone else to protect the £XXX they want to hold on your card with the basic insurance. www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-car-hire#insurancetrick
You are referring to number 5, right? That requires I have a credit card. Sadly, I have a Natwest debit card :(
