Folk Music Venues...?
Hello folks!
I'm a wandering minstrel with some ideas for a potential tour around south-eastern Australia later this year to showcase some Swedish and Anglo-Celtic folk songs. In the past I've done more than enough gigs at the various music venues in areas such as along High Street in Northcote; this time I'm looking for something a little more whimsical...magical, even. Something with the vibes of Bilbo's 111th birthday party. Would anyone here know of, or perhaps even be a manager of any spaces, venues, or events?
I have applied for Maldon Folk Festival at the beginning of November, so, assuming that application is successful, I would be arriving in Melbs on the 5th, or thereabouts, and probably staying for about a week. In the spirit of this website, I am particularly keen to play house concerts, so if you fancy an intimate evening of folk music for you and your friends in your own home, I would especially love to hear from you!
I look forward to reading all your suggestions...

Drummers of Melbourne - who's willing to help me with my homework?
Musicians of Melbourne, I'll be back in town between October 20 and November 7. As a beginner drummer, it's a bit long for me to go without doing my homework. I'll be traveling with a pad and sticks, but if anybody were willing to let me drop by 2 or 3 times (or even just once!) and play for 20 minutes, that would be amazing. Acoustic, electric, buckets - whatever you have. TIA \m/
An unforgettable eve!
Hey there
My name is Merime. I'm a French musician and I used to live in Melbourne for 6 years.
Back to France, I created a show mixing French folk songs and story telling. It’s intimate and reflective - a journey through laughter, tears and wonderment. I am now bringing it to Oz, its land of inspiration. I can perform it in French or in English.
I find that living rooms provide a perfect environment for personal storytelling and connection. The house concert is a collective musical journey we all share together. Here is a small trailer to give you a better “feeling” of the experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoBv_yRETuo&list=PLr3np0sj3yzLO8kRKpoXGxksKqxDeOpTF

Feel free to read the personal references on my profile, it will give you an idea of how other people have lived the experience.
If you're interested, or have some friends who might enjoy hosting a house concert please let me know.
If you know some cozy bars, small venues, or alternative cultural centers which could enjoy my music, I would also appreciate your suggestions.
I look forward to wander, dream and connect with you!
Cheers,
Merime
