I would say this would be cumbersome at best. I sometimes drive people from vineyard to vineyard on an hourly basis, available instantly when they finish at one and then driving on to another. Even with this custom service, visiting four vineyards in a day is difficult if you allow time for lunch.
There are Uber drivers in Napa Valley, which costs less than a private driver. I would recommend this instead. With 450 vineyards and tasting rooms, from Napa to Calistoga (and beyond to Glen Ellen, Guerneville, Healdsburg and Cloverdale), the variety is endless.
Best of luck!
Not advisable. The buses don't run those routes. And the schedules especially on the weekends are very lousy.
Bus tours go to specific wineries....not necessarily the ones with the best wines. Public buses are infrequent on weekends. I would suggest renting a bike for the day. It's hot, but you will see other cyclists arriving by bike. There is also a wine train. Reservations may be required in advance and it's a bit of a splurge. Uber and Lyft are also options.
I wouldn't say bicycles are practical, except for very serious cyclists. The roads are crowded, and some driver's are somewhat less than sober - a danger on roads without bicycle lanes.
If one does use a bicycle, best to plan carefully and keep distances very short.
The "Wine Train" is VERY expensive - about $200 per person for a short tour!
thanks for the feedback! im not going on the weekend and from what i can tell the buses go to oakville from napa downtown and there are plenty of vinyards around there including mondavi if im not mistaken? i was thinking uber as a back up if we are really stuck. also, i have only chosen vinyards without an appointment needed. what do you guys think?
I host Workaway people quite often and my advice to them is that buses in the United States and Public transportation outside cities is not convenient and it is not an expensive. The unfortunate reality is that if you want to see a bunch of stuff in the wine country or the bay area, having a car is your best bet. Yes you can bike but you need a car to get your bicycle to where you're going. Renting a car is not very expensive compared to the cost of buses.
no
Hi Holly! Your best bet is to Uber or taxi from vineyard to vineyard.
If you do choose a driver, Pure Luxury Transportation is the best--VERY personalized and professional.
If you bike, choose an area of wine country with lots of wineries clustered together, and with safe biking roads, like downtown Sonoma or Healdsburg. Choose your route wisely, because traffic safety can be a concern. For example, you would not want to cycle in the some parts of the upper Napa Valley, because there is too much traffic.
I hope this helps!
