Buy a motorcycle - need help
Hello community, me and my friend want to buy a motorbike in hanoi in order to travel around vietnam for 4 to 5 weeks. does anyone know mechanics and could help us with some advice á we dont really know a lot about motorbikes. Or does anyone has a bike to sell ?? further more we would like to meet up with some locals, just hit me up. thanks in advance & HAVE A NICE DAY david

What's your budget? And what kind of motorbike are you looking for? There are some for sale on Craigslist. Or you can walk around and buy back from other backpackers.
Hello, I think in Vietnam, renting a motorbike is more favorable to a foreigner. If you want to buy a motorbike, you have to register a wide range of license to government. Additionally, after travelling, I assume you will want find someone to sell your motorbike to. Definitely, renting a motorcycle is a best choice. If you want to rent one in Hanoi, search Google and you can find bunch of websites offer this service. Good luck. Hope you have wonderful time in Vietnam.

Hey there - to buy from foreigners (sometimes locals) check Hanoi Massive group on facebook - many people buying/selling there but you need to have a loose idea of what you're looking for etc. Otherwise there is a great and very trustworthy mechanic/bike shop that sells bikes, it's on Ngo Huyen, near the cathedral, i think number 36, but may be off by few digits. It's an orange sign, shop called Phung's Motorbikes, across from Bun Dau (tofu) 'stall' at lunchtime. You can just go there and talk to Phung and he'll help you out. He can sell you a bike, he'll help you with maitenance and he may even buy back the bike from you after you're done with your roadtrip. His bikes on average cost some $30-50 more than elsewhere but the extra expense is very much worth it if you want a bike for going on a road trip - you'll drive off knowing that the bike is in perfect running order. I've only gone to Phung for all my repairs/bike needs for over 7 years - have no affiliation to him, so no worries - this is not an advertisement - but just a solid recommendation :)

contact me if you're looking for a mechanic :) My father is a many-experience motobike repairman, and he also repaired motobikes for many foreigners who passed by my hometow for their adventurous journey. Go to Ta Hien street if you're wanting to rent a motobike U will see a motobike store ( buy, sell, rent, repair) which is opposite the Com Chay restaurant whose walls were made from Bamboo.
