Where can I find housing in Oakland?

Hello fellow Oakland Couchsurfers!

I've recently accepted a job in San Francisco and am considering Oakland as a place to live. Woo!

I am wondering: -Does anyone know of any small "mom and pop" property management companies? -Does anyone know anyone who is looking for a roommate? -Are there any good resources (besides Reddit or other forums) to learn about the various areas in Oakland? (I'd prefer if this info came from a native Oaklander) -Does anyone know any families who rent rooms out?

I have friends who just moved to the SF Bay Area, best resource I've found is craigslist, but if you want a sample of what living in Oakland is like, check out the Oakland NCPC (neighborhood crime prevention councils) mailing lists and meetings:

I always found groups on FB helpful. There are several ones you can search based on "bay area affordable housing" etc
