Donate your Voice!
Orkney, we need you!
While high tec Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices can be invaluable for people with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), like the Apple software used by the physicist Stephen Hawking, one common complaint has been the quality of the synthetic voices used in them.
"The Speak: Unique Voicebank Research Project" is a collaboration between the University of Edinburgh Informatics department and its MND clinicians.
It’s aim is simple – to try and create personal synthetic voices for AAC devices rather than something generic and off-the-shelf. The idea is that people who may need to use a communication aid in the future could “bank” their voice through less than one hour of speech recorded in a sound booth.
Here's where you come in: The project leaders need the accent from Orkney!
Please consider volunteering for this worthwhile cause.
