Would you like a city/ area tour from a local?
Well, I’m not technically a local, because unless you were born in Maine, you aren’t local. You could have been born just over the border in New Hampshire, and your family moved to Maine when you were 6 months old. You’re still considered “from away”.
Be that as it may, I do have some inside knowledge about great places for food, entertainment and excellent shopping and other activities you WON’T find in a AAA Guide Book. Many of the places I found to be special were quite by accident. Some I saw simply by passing an establishment on the way to go somewhere, or just pleasure driving. I also belong to a couple of organizations which have both access and resources in which I am able to use to find places off the beaten path, or nature trails, good places to use all the settings on your camera, and places that will transport you back in time. (Several time periods, really!)
About me: I am a married woman with no human kids but we love our fur babies! We’ve had horses, dogs, cats, birds, guinea pigs, rare tropical marine fish. We have fostered baby opossums, birds, squirrels, and any other animal we come across that clearly needs help. I also enjoy cooking when I have all the ingredients ready to go, and I know that the people I will be serving LOVE the type of dish I am making. ( I make a REALLY HEAVY multi-layered lasagne, and I don’t cut corners). I have become quite adept at sautéed salmon fillets, and I make a mean pasta salad—very good to have in the heat of the day to give your mouth an oasis of cold eats.
I have a Jeep Wrangler for fun-in-the-son travel to do whatever errands, and certainly for showing people around.
Since the Northeast part of the US is fairly small, sometimes short trips can take you into Boston, or maybe downtown Portsmouth, because it is a very under appreciated city. There’s a LOT to see and do here, as well. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention a side trip to Newburyport Massachusetts. To me, this is one of about 5 cities/towns in Massachusetts which embodies the whole “New England vibe, with the quaint, cobblestone walkways and town center, a large seasonal marina, several boutique shops, and a slew of choices to meet any of your dining desires. Needless to say, being oceanside really helps when you are in the market for fresh seafood!
