Ever want to hike in the gorge? or check out America's only municipal elevator in Oregon City? or take a quick over-nighter in Ashland, Seattle, Newport or Bend? or have you wanted to check out the bike co-op in Bellingham? Find a CS friend to go with you. I know that I would go if I wasn't working. Make a friend, save money on gas, and couchsurf in a city or podunk town, you've always wanted to check out!

Eastern Oregon Week-Long Camping Trip April 7th-13th

Hey folks! I am organizing a camping trip through Eastern Oregon that will begin in the Portland area on April 7th, and we will return on April 13th, late. So far its me and my girlfriend, and one other who is currently on the fence, but otherwise we are welcoming two more to join us!

The following plan is from our itinerary: Day 1: Portland area to Dayville; stopping in Maupin and John Day Fossil Beds Clarno, Painted Hills and Sheep Rock.

Day 2: Dayville to Steens Mountain; stopping in Burns, Beulah Reservoir/Dam, and Malhuer NWR. Camping at Mann Lake, at the foot of the Steens.

Day 3: Day trip to Jordan Valley and back to Steens; stopping at John-Baptiste Charbonneau Grave (look him up), Sheep Ranch Fortified Home and the Pillars of Rome before returning to camp. Will either pack lunch or grab food in Jordan Valley.

Day 4: Steens Mountain to Virgin Valley, NV; stopping at Alvord Hot Springs and Desert, Andrews Cemetery, Fields, and Denio.

Day 5: Relaxing day! Also opportunity for opal mining, but can be pricey but worth it if you are a rockhound!

Day 6: Virgin Valley to Abert Rim, Oregon; with stops in Lakeview, Oregon to see Old Perpetual before treking on 30 miles of dirt road to the Abert Rim lookout. Then retire to camp at Mud Creek Campground.

Three options for Day 3: camp one more day and visit either Crack in the Ground and Fort Rock or go into California for a day to visit the three corners monument, Warner Valley and Fort Bidwell, or head home.

I ask that if you decide to join us and will be riding with us, to please consider sharing fuel expenses with us. If you bring your own vehicle, be aware of the primitive roads we plan to travel and understand that the roads may only be suitable for high clearance vehicles.

Also understand that there will likely be no cell service anywhere we go out east unless you have outstanding coverage. I would request that there are no electronics on this trip, but if its needed, I can understand. But I think a trip like this will be whats needed for the soul before we go head on into spring and summer 2019.

The reason I planned this trip is because I know for sure I will not have the time in the summer to do this trip, and I want to be able to enjoy it with people I know or people I'd love to get to know! IF you are interested in coming along, feel free to let me know! Hope to see you all out there!
