Dangerous?

Dear Couchsurfing friends, I’m an experienced solo traveller and I would love to come and enjoy Salvador. I have read and heard that it is a little bit more dangerous than Other cities in Brazil. I know that one should not wear flashy jewelry or fancy clothes however I would like to know from you local people if you think it is dangerous? Obviously, I will not be walking around alone at night, but I will take a taxi, et cetera… I would be grateful for some feedback from you💕🫶🏾

Helo Soh, I’m from Salvador, enjoyn tourist zone, Barra, Rio Vermelho, Pelourinho, there a lote police and information for tourist. There are a lot people then help you with local information. Have a nice trip!

I'm also from Salvador, born and raised. Salvador used to be much safer (and cleaner) but nowadays is somewhat abandoned. I definitely recommend visiting key spot in Salvador, like Santo Antônio Além do Carmo, Ponta do Humaitá, Praia do Flamengo, Porto da Barra and -of course- Pelourinho... but you need EXTRA caution to go to this places.

The best of Salvador still its people, so connect and have lots of fun - but don't forget to use a fanny pack for your wallet and phone and don't shine your blings (believe me, you don't want/need the attention).

Thanks so much! I will research these places you mentioned. You said I need EXTRA caution… for Pelourinho only? Or all of them😈❓

Anywhere in the city, Soh. And just to add, I'd not go to those places at night... during the night you are better off going to Rio Vermelho or any private events.
