If you've got the full 4 hours I'd recommend going either to the San Salvador volcano, where you'll have a perfect view of the city (country if it's a clear day) while you enjoy a wonderful meal at any of the restaurants you can find there or take a trip to the beach to enjoy some fresh seafood. My recomended restaurants, if you decide to go the volcano, are Las Brumas (https://www.facebook.com/lasbrumas/) or La Pampa (https://www.facebook.com/lapampaelvolcan/). If you go to the beach you've got two options: Costa del Sol (east from airport) or Puerto de La Libertad (west). I'd rather go west because you'll find more beaches and a lot of restaurants like La Pampa (https://www.facebook.com/lapampalalibertad/), Café Sunzal (https://www.facebook.com/cafesunzal/), Beto's (https://www.facebook.com/Betos-Restaurante-Tamanique-La-Libertad-138835866206707/) and more, all of them with a beautiful view.

Just remember that going to either of these places would take you 45 min - 1 hour. Just keep that in mind and enjoy. It'll be worth it.

Its too short time!!! I mean, you will use at least 45 to going out the airport,,, then move to San Salvador (1 hour), the vulcano (1:30 hour), the beach (45 minutes)... and the same time to return... and El Salvador requires be 2 hours before you take a plane... So that mean not enough time By the other hand, if you have more time, El Salvador offers you the possibility to be 1 day with the stop over and visit a lot of places with a small budget https://reservas.elsalvadorstopover.com/ best wishes! I do think its not enough time too, as he said it may take 45 min to get out the airport 1 hour to get to san salvador and you dont get back on time, the only thing you have time to is to go olocuilta to eat pupusas, you get a taxi but you gotta be really fast! pupusas are our gastronomic treasure, i know not many good things comes from our country but pupusas are one of those exceptions. enjoy!
