Just to be clear, are you being paid $38521 per month or per year?
I meant per year :(
Is that a year or a month? I'm guessing it's a typo, as you'll be earning what the prime minister makes, or it's an annual figure?
That figure looks more like the minimum wage (annual) in Australia (actually, I just did the maths and it is the minimum wage). Sydney is a very expensive city and although you'll get by, some sacrifices will have to be mad in terms of the distance and make-up of your accomodation and your leisure activities. Don't let that stop you, however.
Thank you for you reply! and i mean per year jajaja!
Think 33% in taxes....so, after taxes, 32k/yr, which is $2680/mo. Depending on where you live and how economically you live, you could probably find rooms as low as about $250-300/wk (note they do weekly, not monthly rent, so you pay 52 weeks worth of payments, not 12 monthly payments...usually pay once every 4 weeks, but at $300/wk for a room, that's $15.6k/yr. leaving about $16.5k/yr for everything else (phone, utilities, food, transportation, clothing, entertainment). So, $1,375 (and I assume if you're not from AU already, you'll need medical insurance? That can get expensive too).
It's doable, but it's tight living. I'd recommend finding as cheap of a room as close to your work as possible.
Thank ou so much for your answer! This info is very helpful
It is possible, but you'll need to share accommodation keep the cost down to not more than 30% the income which means, living in a cheaper area, use public transport mostly or if you can ride a bicycle that will save you a lot on transport costs, prepare food at home most of the time. There should still be some money left over for fun
Thank you so much!
Just calculate your rent per weeky. You can share. Then groceries buy from cheaper stores. $80 per week then depends on spending money. Easy to live cheaply. I would say $400 per week plenty!
Thank you Kay!
sounds a bit optimistic to me. dont forget the unplanned ''extras" - clothing, medical, transport, etc. no medicare for overseas visitors! maybe if you are prepared to share a room
Thank you everybody! Hahaha yeah I meant per year! I appreciate your time to reply, this information is really helpful to make a decision! Greetings from Colombia!
