: Ok. This is a space to be a dreamer and to think and share broad generalities (and possibilities of how to make these real within the project) about the Couchsurfing Project - what CS means to you/us and what it CAN mean/do for you/us in the future.

I ask for hopes and dreams and what can eventually, one day, become possible! ANYTHING is possible, right? I ask that it does NOT become a space to criticize or say "that's impossible". In fact, let's try for a group for understanding and sensitivity and learning from each other: anytime you want to criticize, try to pick different words that sound more constructive and say it/think it in a different way. It's time to think outside the boundaries, regulations and structures that already define many of our lives way too much.. Be open to having your mind changed by learning from one another and thinking and dreaming BIG.

What can couchsurfing become and how can we make it so?? We, the couchsurfers, are HUGE in defining this project! It couldn't happen without us!!

(Let's remember these are not short term objectives but longer term ideas so we wont be expecting programming right away on this! Unless its a supa-fine idea that we have collectively conceptualized. Woo hooo!!)

New Year Party in Marrakech mountains

Hi Dear Couchsurfers,

We* some local couchsurfers have the honor to organize an amazing party for the new year, we are active couchsurfers who want to share the newyear party with you in a new way, unusual way , spending the New Year night at Ourika valley in a big house by the river and nature(1hour from marrakech).

we have already tried it once this way, it was really an unforgatable experience that we recommand that everyone would enjoy it, it's only a few days that we have left in this year, we think you know the saying "the best days in our life will never be behind us", thus we address trustworthy and cool open minded couchsurfers who want to enjoying the new year party and meanwhile making friends! However there are not many places offered, we need at the most 30 people mixed girls and boys with different nationalities.

Here is our suggested programme :

Departure : 1rst Mini Bus, 1.00 PM infront of KFC restaurant in DJAMAA ELFNA. 2nd Mini Bus, 2.00 PM at the same place.

Lunch : Having lunch on the way in Ourika valley ( berber tajin and tea ...)

Arrival : arriving in the main place, after two hours or less from the Departure time.

  • Descovering the place (the wild villa), nearby natural views, including the river.

  • Three groups : the first groupe will participaten making a couchsurfing Flag. The second will participate on slaaghtering a cheep in the same traditional way that moroccans do at the great Bairam The AID. The third will prepare the cocktails and the atmospher of the night party.

the party will start at 7.00 : Dj indoors, playing guitars and gnawa spiritual music outdoors next to the river gathering around fire with shisha...

Dinner at 9.00 : Tajin with beaf( vegetable tajin for vegetarians ) and moroccan salad and fruits.

after the Dinner will keep celebrating and enjoying several kinds of music .

giving gifts to those who got the braveness to drive in the cold water in the river at night .

keep enojoying ... and there will be more surprises of cours .

In the morning and after having breakfast, the Buses will take us to Setti Fadma which is two miles far away from our villa , where we can have the chance to discover the waterfalls .

Back to Marrakech at 4 Pm .

Obligations : 500 Dh (50 Euros) for each one( it is including the charges of transport and everything written in our programme, we will discuss about the given price to make everything clear in our meeting), and if you are able to bring your sleeping bags, blankets, or you have more blankets we'll be bliss if you can help others who don't have them.

PS :- This is not a profit evenment so that and first of all we're planning to make an appointement ( meeting next friday at 7 pm in café france djamaa lfna square) with interested couchsurfers so as to discuss our programme and get the more suggestions they may offer.

The future of CS...and " No Impact Living" can it work together?

I have been thinking about is more and more how this could possibly fit together.

I know that a lot of us CS'ers are in the forefront of environmentally awareness and/but we also have a passion for traveling. How can we try to live out both our passions, to travel and to live in a sustainable way for the environment?

Below is more information about my research and myself.

I am very happy CSer (since 2004) who is currently

embroiled in her mixed methods- both qualitative and quantitative- graduate research for my Masters in Integral Theory. I am studying Integral Pscyhology at JfK University in the SF Bay Area, California, USA. I am exploring the art and practice of "Conscious Journeying: transforming through travel and traveling through transformation." I am fascinated by the unique and diverse experiences of transformation as they are promoted, enabled or inspired through travel and feel that Couchsurfing has always been a great organization and service that not only cultivates individual but also collective and institutional transformation as well. Thus, I am intending to do my organizational portion of the research on the Couchsurfing Global Initiative and its sustainability, popularity and efficacy. Right now, I am approaching my intersubjective/ interpersonal portion of my research project. This involves interviews and an ethnographic exploration of the idea of journeying itself. I am looking for travelers or journeyers interested in being possible interview subjects for my research. I will also be posting this query in the Group/ Chats but wanted to see if any of the management would be interested in possibly speaking with me as well. These short interviews can be conducted online and will be recorded, transcribed and finally coded to uncover general themes on the subject of my topic, conscious journeying.
