Definitely book a little in advance as prices regularly go up the closer you get to your date of travel. Especially now that our more affordable inter-island airline, Island Air, has gone out of business, the only option you have is fly with Hawaiian Airlines, which isn't always an affordably option.

Better to book in advance. Mokulele Air is also an option for some routes and may cost less than Hawaiian.
