Welcome to the "Show 'n' Tell Cinema Club", where cinema meets personal experience! Here’s how it works: Each session, one of our members picks a film—any country, any genre, in its original language (with English subtitles, of course!)—and shares a short introduction about why they chose it. Then, we watch the film through their eyes, discovering what makes it special to them. Is it a childhood favorite? A film that changed their perspective? A hidden gem from their culture? Afterward, we discuss, exchange thoughts, and experience the magic of storytelling together. It’s more than just watching movies—it’s about seeing the world through someone else's lens. Next Monday Kacper is going to share with us a fascinating film called Upstream Color! That’s what he has to say about it: “Upstream Color represents experimental American cinema at its finest” - Rotten Tomatoes (86%) Written, directed, produced by and starring Shane Carruth. Who the heck is he? Dude majored in math, became software developer only to turn a filmmaker winning Sundance Grand Jury Prize for Primer. No prior directing experience. $7000 budget. “For a time, Upstream Color was trending higher on Twitter than Sundance itself.” - Mark Olsen, Los Angeles Times Upstream Color is Carruth’s 2nd movie. There was no 3rd. (1) “I view Shane as the illegitimate offspring of David Lynch and James Cameron.” - Steven Soderbergh (think Traffic or Behind the Candelabra) The real reasons I picked it for us? - something different - just as great to watch as it is to discuss - 90 min runtime (short attention span friendly) - planned to re-watch it anyway - nobody understands Primer on the 1st go
