Held every January 9th, the Traslacion is a tradition steeped in history as far back as 1787. It’s a unique cultural experience even to the curious non-religious. This will be my first time in over a decade to Quiapo, easily my favorite district in all of Metro Manila and an area considered a microcosm of Philippine society. We’ll hang somewhere safe and above the crowd by the San Sebastián Church shortly ahead of when the procession is expected to pass by for the ‘dungaw’ ritual. I understand this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but DM if you’re remotely interested in joining!
Reach out to me early to coordinate a meetup away from Old Downtown Manila as there will not be phone signal in the vicinity of the event.
