Mardi Gras Indians are a mix of Native American, African American, and French traditions of music, dance, and costuming. Through the year various groups of Indians host neighborhood Second Line parades where they dress in fancy headdresses and sequinned costumes with a band.
Super Sunday is an annual event where several different groups come together for a "competition"/exhibition of their dance and costuming. It starts in A.L. David park and winds it's way through the neighborhood in various directions and then eventually comes back to the park. Around the park is also a block party vibe and many really excellent food vendors will be available so come hungry.
