I apologize in advance but unless you have several host references, I may not be comfortable hosting you. —- I live in downtown San Jose. Come visit! CURRENT MISSION Live life authentically - share joy and love. ABOUT ME I have many hobbies. I like gardening, adventuring, eating, making new friends, and playing games that nurture my inner 9 year-old (while helping raise my 9 year old). PHILOSOPHY Live and let live. Life is too short not to enjoy it. (This includes eating sweets - my weakness.)
In 2012, I hosted a person that was hitchhiking across the US. She subsequently went on to travel the world, visiting 40 countries and after getting married to an American ex-pat in Australia and living there for awhile, she is back in the US. Anyway, she introduced the idea of couchsurfing to me, and although I joined in 2012, I did not do any couchsurfing. In May 2025, I finally got to try couchsurfing, and it was amazing! My new cs brothers hosted me in Amsterdam, Madrid and Lisbon, and I was inspired by their hospitality and generosity. A few things about me: I am open, honest, curious, non-judgmental and like to laugh. I am a 3rd generation Japanese American, retired semiconductor process engineer. I enjoy cooking, gardening, volunteering, reading, traveling, and the outdoors - whether walking, hiking, camping or backpacking. Because I like to cook, if you stay with me as a guest, I would like to share at least one meal with you. So to check to see if you have read my profile, please let me know in your request if you have any food restrictions. I am excited to join this community and create more lasting memories with some new friends.
Woah, it's been so long since I used this site. I used to be interesting, back when I was a student. Now I'm just a regular working dude. 2023 description: I'm kind of a hippie mixed with an adrenaline junkie mixed with a nerd. I'm curious about nearly everything, although I often come off as quiet and shy (definitely not a party guy). I love any activity that involves spending time in nature. I just graduated from studying sustainable energy engineering (solar PV) at NTNU (Trondheim, Norway) and now finished a post-graduate internship in Taiwan (Hualien) in silicon solar cells.

Hey there! My name is Brett, and my wife Rachel and I would love to meet you! We are very passionate about couchsurfing, its community, and all that it has to offer. It is the absolute best way to travel. We love to travel, be in the outdoors, cook, visit small towns, learn new things, and meet people to share stories and culture. We look forward to meeting you! Update, we are now a family of 5 and have continued to couch surf and host with our sons and daughter. . It’s been a great way to expose them to travel and different people.
I'm lucky. I am a bit of a coward. I generally mean to do good. I am mundane but sometimes I surprise certain people. I'm a mother of more kids than I can believe.
CURRENT MISSION — To pass on the hospitality I have received in our travels around the World I would love to meet Italian Families as we are planning a long term stay in Italy with our children!!! From Italy we would like to make short trips to Africa and perhaps move there after Italy:) ABOUT ME — I have lived my life by these words,”Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one less traveled by and that made all the difference”. Motorcycle Traveller and Wildlife Photography by choice and Analyst by necessity! As I rode my bike onto a home-bound ferry after a holiday on Waiheke Island, I pondered this idea of coming to a place by boat for the first time. But sadly, a return ferry journey is never as exciting as the outbound voyage. Rolling off a boat on a motorcycle into a foreign land is one of the most exciting experiences I know. No matter where it is in the world: freewheeling down the ramp, the metallic clank that marks your arrival, and your first glimpse of a strange land. Everything looks different, sounds different, even smells different-you feel different. Even as a child I was a fully signed-up disciple of Robert Louis Stevenson it is better to travel hopefully than to arrive. I was never the one in the backseat shouting, Are we nearly there yet? or if I was, it was in the hope that the answer would be a reassuring no. Family holidays were always a source of thrills and anticipation---until we rolled up to our destination. I didn't actually want to get to the holiday cottage in Shimla, or the campsite in Goa, or wherever we were heading that summer. I wanted to keep moving, to stare out the car window and watch the scenery roll past, to read the town names and road signs, and gaze at the houses and shops, and the people that lived in these mysterious places that I would never know. PHILOSOPHY Life is a journey, Travel it well! Love Vipassanna meditation!
Hello! My name is Juan Andrés and I from Argentina. (I know you’ve already read it, but was the best way to start I could find) I'll be travelling this year and next one (hope with no stop). I’m a good guy, easy to get along with, always joking and laughing. I’m respectful of everywhere I go and do like to keep things clean and in order. I’m looking forward to meet people, but not like hotel stuff. People to bond over, have interesting and deep conversations. Also talk and laugh about silly stuff. Meet people who help me to get to know the city, as I’m not crazy about normal attractions/activities for tourists (I don’t consider myself one). I mean, for sure there is good stuff to visit (popular doesn’t mean bad necessarily) but I enjoy places where not all the people go, like the “the pub around the corner” that I may don’t find in a guide. What I’m crazy about is music. I like to compose songs, I’ll take my guitar so hope you enjoy me! Also I want to improve my languages, especially french. I’ll talk to everyone who gets on my way: people, animals, stones, etc.
CURRENT MISSION travel and really experience other cultures. ABOUT ME I am a "Lady of Leisure", using my time after decades of hard work in the high tech industry, to travel and volunteer. I like to keep busy and smiling.
CURRENT MISSION Deciphering existence of life and reality. ABOUT ME I tend to be quiet around people until I get to know them. Love outdoor activities (hiking and sightseeing mainly). Love to eat good food, but not expensive food. Love to listen to Chinese, Korean, French, and Japanese ballad. Optimistic about life. Love to meet different people and learning about people's life. Life is all about experience to me. I love to hear people's experience, good or bad, and love to experience thing (mostly good). PHILOSOPHY Experience, whether good or bad, makes life interesting and worth living. Nothing should be more important in life than to find your own happiness.
CURRENT MISSION travel ABOUT ME I am a Brazilian American interested in meeting people and making new friends over a cup of coffee. I have currently been living mostly between Brazil and the US for work, but I sometimes end up in different countries. I am a traveler with a career in international education and who loves learning about different cultures. PHILOSOPHY It is easier to change something about yourself than to try to change other people.
I am a co-founder and former CEO of CouchSurfing. I last worked full-time for the company in 2012 (and was involved in some way from 2004-2015). CURRENT MISSION To cultivate a heart as peaceful, joyful, and lovely as that of a flower. -- Toshitsugu Takamatsu ABOUT ME I am a truth-seeker (a philosopher), a traveler, a warrior, a businessman. Getting more mellow as I enter my mid-40's (relative to the crazy adventure-seeker I was for some of my 20's), but determined to keep the spark alive. Still have high hopes and dreams. PHILOSOPHY An act of kindness is never wasted. Always strive for perfection. Never forget where you came from. Remember what is important. What you do in life echoes in eternity.
