First, because it is an awesome way to meet new people and the best way to get to know about an area. There is only so much that you can learn from travel guides and Google. Every place has hidden gems that only the residents would know about. When we go to a place we like to discover these "hidden gems" and the awesome people on couchsurfing enable us to do just that! :)
